Open Letter to Our Matterport Customers
We understand that communications from Zillow to our customers are continuing to cause some confusion regarding Matterport media, including 3D tours. We want to ensure you have the clearest possible information, so you can continue to make the best decisions for your business.
We want to confirm what we have already stated publicly, including in our October 21, 2025 press release, and in several subsequent letters to Zillow:
Customers who have directly purchased Matterport media, including 3D tours, from Matterport, may post them anywhere. Customers have always had that right, and that has not changed.
In addition, we want to highlight again that all media created by CoStar Group specifically for use in CoStar Group products remain proprietary to CoStar Group, and may not be posted on competing websites, like Zillow. This includes 3D tours and floor plans that were specifically created for use in CoStar Group products (and not pursuant to a customer’s direct agreement with Matterport), which are easy to identify because they include the branding of such other CoStar Group products. For example, 3D tours created for Apartments.com are labeled as “Presented by Apartments.com”, and those specifically created for Homes.com are labeled as “Presented by Homes.com”.
The distinction between the media directly purchased by Matterport customers, and the media created by CoStar Group specifically for use in CoStar Group products, is a distinction that allows CoStar Group to protect the unique investments we’ve made in our platforms and the billions of dollars we have invested in proprietary content. In turn, that helps us provide superior value to our partners and consumers.
Should you wish to share this letter with other organizations, including Zillow Group, please feel free to do so.
